Who Is This 100-Inch TV Actually For?
For a long time in Malaysia, a 100-inch TV meant either a projector (with all the dark-room and bulb-replacement compromises that come with it) or a commercial-grade panel costing RM30,000 and up. Samsung's UA100M90H changes that math.
That said — "cheaper than RM30,000" is not the same as "right for your living room." In our 45 years at Tanradio selling TVs across Johor, the single biggest cause of TV regret isn't the brand or the panel tech — it's buying a screen that doesn't match the room. So before we get into picture quality, let's talk about whether 100" even fits.
Quick room-size check
Samsung Malaysia's official rule of thumb is viewing distance (ft) = screen size (in) × 1.2. That gives the minimum distance for 4K — sit any closer and individual pixels start becoming visible. For comfort over a two-hour movie, most people prefer to sit a bit farther back.
| TV size | Samsung minimum (4K) | Comfortable distance |
|---|---|---|
| 65" | 6.5 ft (2.0 m) | 8 – 10 ft |
| 75" | 7.5 ft (2.3 m) | 9 – 11 ft |
| 85" | 8.5 ft (2.6 m) | 10 – 13 ft |
| 98" | 9.8 ft (3.0 m) | 12 – 15 ft |
| 100" | 10 ft (3.0 m) | 13 ft + |
For the 100" M90H, Samsung's minimum is 10 ft. We'd call 13 ft+ the comfortable range — at 10 ft you're technically fine, but scanning the full screen during fast action (football, action scenes) starts feeling tiring. Pull out a measuring tape from your couch to your TV wall. Past 13 ft? 100" works. Around 10 ft? You can do it, but 85" will likely feel more relaxed.
How Big Is 100 Inches, Really?
Inches are a diagonal measurement, which doesn't intuitively tell you anything useful. Here's what actually matters when you're looking at a wall and trying to picture it.
| Size | Width | Height | Screen area | Weight (panel only) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100" | 222.7 cm | 127.8 cm | 2.85 m² | 42.5 kg |
| 98" | 218 cm | 123 cm | 2.68 m² | ~55 kg |
| 85" | 189 cm | 107 cm | 2.02 m² | ~40 kg |
| 75" | 167 cm | 94 cm | 1.57 m² | ~32 kg |
Also check the wall. A 100" Mini LED is 42.5 kg of panel(Samsung official spec, no stand) — about the weight of a 10-year-old child. Standard drywall studs are not enough; you need solid masonry, double-stud reinforcement, or a steel mount plate. Tanradio's install team checks this before quoting wall-mounting; ask for a site visit.
Picture Quality: Mini LED Without the Jargon
The headline tech here is Mini LED with Supreme Dimming. In plain English: the backlight behind the panel is divided into hundreds of independently-controlled zones. When a scene has a bright character on a dark background, only the zones behind the character light up — the rest stay dark. The result is contrast that gets much closer to OLED while keeping the brightness advantage of LED.
Mini LED vs OLED — which is right for Malaysia?
We get this question every week in store. Honest answer: Mini LED is the better fit for almost every Malaysian living room, for three reasons:
- Brightness wins in real rooms. Malaysian living rooms have big windows, ceiling lights, and frequent daytime-on-the-TV use. OLEDs (typically 600–800 nits sustained) wash out. Mini LED M90H pushes well above that.
- No burn-in from Astro / channel logos. OLED pixels degrade unevenly when static images sit on screen. Malaysians who leave Astro News on for hours have come back and told us about ghost logos within 2–3 years. Mini LED has no such issue.
- Tolerates the Malaysian electrical grid. Voltage fluctuations are harder on OLED's organic compounds than on LED backlight arrays. With a decent voltage stabiliser both will last; without one, Mini LED is more forgiving.
OLED still wins in a dedicated, blacked-out home theatre room. If you have one of those — you probably already know what you want. For everyone else, Mini LED is the right answer in 2026.
The NQ4 AI Gen2 processor matters more than the spec sheet suggests
Most TV content in Malaysian homes isn't 4K. Astro broadcasts in 1080i for most channels. Netflix and YouTube auto-adjust to your broadband, often landing at 1080p in the evening. On a 100-inch screen, anything below 4K can look soft unless the upscaler is doing serious work.
The M90H's NQ4 AI Gen2 processor does 4K upscaling with machine-learning models trained on millions of frames. In practice: an Astro 1080i channel looks visibly cleaner on the M90H than on a non-AI TV of the same panel quality. This isn't marketing fluff; you can see the difference within 30 seconds of switching.
Smart TV Features That Actually Get Used
The M90H runs Samsung's Tizen OS with the 2026 Vision AI update. The features Malaysian customers actually open every day:
- Apps that work out of the box: Netflix, YouTube, Astro Go, iQiyi, Disney+ Hotstar, Spotify
- Apple AirPlay 2 & Google Cast: Mirror from iPhone or Android without extra dongles
- SmartThings + Matter Hub built-in: If you already have smart bulbs or aircon controllers, the TV becomes your control hub
- Bixby voice (English & Malay): Channel switching by voice actually works; complex queries less so
- Multi-View: Watch the football match in one half and YouTube highlights in the other — useful during Liga MY weekends
Three HDMI 2.1 ports — all 4K @ 144Hz
A small detail that matters for households where the TV is the shared hub: all three HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1, all support 4K at 144 Hz. You can plug in a PS5, an Xbox Series X, and a soundbar (or Astro decoder) and never have to swap cables to get the high-refresh-rate input. Samsung also includes eARC on one of them for full Dolby Atmos pass-through to a compatible soundbar.
Seven years of software updates
Samsung committed to 7 years of Tizen OS upgradesfor 2026 TVs. Translated: the apps and OS on your M90H will keep getting new versions through 2033. For a TV at this price point that's unusual — most TVs go stale within 3–4 years as the smart platform drops support. It means the M90H is genuinely a long-term home investment, not a fast-aging piece of consumer electronics.
Sound: Add a Soundbar
Built-in audio on the M90H is 20 W stereo with OTS Lite object-tracking. That's fine for daily news and YouTube. For movies and football, it's underwhelming on a 100-inch screen — the visual scale demands sound to match.
The good news: Samsung's Q-Symphony lets a Samsung soundbar (HW-Q800 / Q990 series and up) play together with the TV speakers rather than replacing them, adding both depth and clarity. Bundle pricing on TV + soundbar is usually meaningfully cheaper than buying separately — ask us about current bundles.

The Verdict
What we like
- True cinema scale at a previously-impossible price
- Mini LED brightness handles bright living rooms
- NQ4 AI upscaler makes 1080i Astro look respectable
- Genuinely useful smart features (AirPlay, Cast, Matter)
Worth knowing
- Built-in speakers under-deliver for the screen size
- Wall-mounting needs proper structural assessment
- Wrong room size = the most expensive mistake you can make
- Initial Malaysia allocation is small — pre-order matters
For families in Johor with a living room that fits the scale, this is the easiest TV to recommend right now. The price-to-screen-size ratio is unprecedented. The picture quality holds up. The Tizen platform is mature. And Samsung's Malaysian service network is solid.
For families whose living rooms don't fit it — save the money, buy an 85" or 98", and put the difference into a good soundbar. The room match matters more than the inches.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a 100-inch TV too big for a Malaysian living room?
It depends on viewing distance, not room type. Samsung's official minimum for 100" is about 10 ft. For comfort over a two-hour movie we'd call 13 ft+ the sweet spot. Below 10 ft you'll feel overwhelmed and 85" or 98" will look better. Past 20 ft it actually starts looking normal-sized.
Where can I see the Samsung UA100M90H 100-inch TV in Johor?
Tanradio is taking pre-orders ahead of Malaysia launch. Live unit viewing depends on Samsung's display schedule at our 11 Johor branches — message us on WhatsApp and we'll let you know which showroom has it on the floor and when.
Mini LED vs OLED — which is better for a bright Malaysian living room?
Mini LED. OLED's perfect blacks are stunning in dark rooms, but Malaysian living rooms with large windows and ceiling lights will wash out an OLED. Mini LED panels like the M90H push much higher peak brightness (typically 1,500–2,000 nits region) and don't suffer burn-in from static channel logos — important when the TV runs Astro all day.
Will the 100" TV's power consumption affect my electricity bill significantly?
Less than people fear. Samsung rates the UA100M90H at 181 W typical (425 W max during peak HDR scenes). Watching 4 hours a day at typical power, that's about 22 kWh/month — roughly RM10–15 on TNB residential tariff. A single 1.5HP air conditioner running the same hours uses 3–4× more electricity than the TV.
What's the warranty on the Samsung M90H in Malaysia?
4 years total. Samsung Malaysia covers the first 2 years onsite, and Tanradio adds another 2 years free of charge with this pre-order — so you're protected through 2030. We're authorised Samsung dealers, so warranty registration and any service claims go through normal Samsung Malaysia channels.
Do you provide installation and wall-mounting?
Yes. Free delivery anywhere in Johor, plus wall-mounting service (additional fee for the bracket and installation labour — quoted per site). Our team checks wall structure first; a 100-inch TV needs a load-rated bracket and either solid masonry or properly reinforced studs.
